Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) promotes ethical conduct, transparency, and compliance with the law. Should any person have a suspicion about illegal or unethical conduct in connection with the finances or other aspects of STEP operations, that person should inform the President. If the illegal wrongdoing concerns the CEO, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of STEP shall be notified instead.
Should the CEO, another officer, or employee or volunteer of STEP receive information regarding illegal or unethical conduct in connection with the finances or other aspects of STEP operations, those officers, employees or volunteers shall inform the entire Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall investigate all credible allegations, while at all times respecting the privacy and reputation of the individuals involved.
There will be no punishment or other retaliation for the reporting of conduct pursuant to this policy. If the person providing the information requests anonymity, this request will be respected to the extent that doing so does not impede any ongoing investigation.
This policy is applicable to the documents of Support The Enlisted Project (STEP). This information is intended as a guideline for retention of records and does not include a comprehensive list of all types of records that STEP may have in its possession. In addition, some individual records within a given category will have more significance than others depending on the circumstances, and may warrant retention beyond normal periods of time. Questions regarding this policy should be directed to STEP's legal counsel.
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act makes it a crime to alter, cover up, falsify, or destroy any document or prevent its use in any official proceeding. Employees who have notice of litigation, or of the possibility of litigation, cannot alter, cover up, falsify, or destroy any document or prevent its use in an official proceeding. Failure on the part of the employee to follow this policy can result in possible civil and criminal sanctions against STEP and its employees, and possible disciplinary action against the individuals responsible. In the event of a governmental audit, investigation, or pending litigation, record disposal under this policy must be suspended immediately until STEP's attorneys have provided further direction.
These policies are effective as of Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
