1. Why STEP?
When I saw the position was available I really felt as if my experience led me here. As a San Diego native with a Vietnam Army veteran father, the military has played a big role in my life. Combine that with my development career working with vulnerable populations and it seemed like the right fit. Now that I have been here a month and seen the impacts we are making, I am really excited we found each other.
2. What's your favorite thing about being a San Diego native?
Probably too many to count, but I feel lucky my family is all here. I left for college and didn't come back for 10 years. I think I grew to appreciate all San Diego has to offer while away and had to come back. Sadly I am a weather wimp. I'm offended by anything lower then 65 and higher then 85 degrees. Looks like San Diego is the best place for me!
3. Why a career in Non-profit fundraising?
I really believe one person can make a difference. And that does not mean you have to fund a new program or build a hospital to make that difference. To me it means you look around where you are - your family, friends, work, neighborhood, city - and you ask yourself how can I make one person's day better? It may mean volunteering at your library, dropping off items from your pantry at the food bank or making an annual gift to your favorite cause. For me to have a career helping make those things happen for people is extremely rewarding. And it's fun.
