2015 Wrap-up

It’s now 2016 and we at STEP have hit the ground running. We wanted to take the time to reflect on the holiday’s and how we were able to give back to our young military families.
We started the holidays with kicking off our Thanksgiving Food Drive in partnership with Jewish Family Services. Food barrels were placed throughout San Diego County for donations. Families, individuals, companies and small business owners donated canned goods and nonperishable foods. Once all of the barrels were overflowing with donations, STEP went and collected all of them and worked with the Jewish Family Services to give those donations to active duty enlisted military members, as well veteran families throughout San Diego County.
Soon after our Thanksgiving Food Drive, we started our Sharing the Joy Holiday Relief Program. We were fortunate enough to help 116 active duty and veteran families, we also partnered with 13 private families and 12 different companies throughout San Diego County with a total of over $100,000 in gifts for all of the families for the community. It was amazing to play a role in helping military and veteran families be able to have a Christmas with a few things under their tree.
On top of all of our huge events, we also were given 30 pallets of popcorn in value of $125,000 from The Boy Scouts of America. In partnership with the San Diego Food Bank, we were able to distribute all of the popcorn to 9 different Naval Base San Diego commands, 19 active duty families, Soldiers’ Angels, NMCRS, as well as the Wounded Warrior Battalion.
The months seemed to fly by when we were at our busiest. Looking back on what we did and how we helped, we just wanted to say thank you to all of those who support STEP and our military families. Little by little we are making a difference, and as long as there is a need, we will be there to help.
